General Overview

In preparation for the final phase of this dermatology programme, this course will advance our knowledge of dermatology in several very important areas:

1. Small animal nutrition and its critical importance in dermatology, including ways of changing or supplementing diet to prevent/control skin diseases and accelerate recovery.
2. Pigmentary diseases, a wide range of primary and secondary problems involving abnormal pigmentation, including common and life-threatening conditions.
3. Feline dermatology, covering diseases which have not been taught in detail up to now, whilst also bringing together concepts of diagnosis and therapy which are special to cats.
4. There will be a focus on the concept of differential diagnosis with sessions dealing with pododermatitis, in all its forms, and pustular diseases covering a wide range of clinical conditions, including infectious and non-infectious causes that are easily confused.
5. Antimicrobial resistance and approaches to infections that can be very difficult to treat, extending our knowledge from previous courses but focusing here on disease caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and use of antimicrobial agents.
6. Therapeutic approaches to more difficult chronic and multiresistant infections, with lectures and practical sessions, including issues relating to nosocomial infection and hygiene.
