Dr. Lewis was qualified in 1988 from Pretoria University (Onderstepoort) in South Africa. Two years compulsory military service as vet in rural areas treating livestock belonging to indigenous people. Some work in the Kruger National Park. Moved to UK after two years in private practice in Cape Town. Obtained CertZooMed in 2003. Worked in referral practices seeing predominantly exotic patients as well as doing work for 2 large zoos.

Lectured widely in UK, Czech Republic, Latvia, Portugal and Ireland. Have contributed. Chapters to 3 BSAVA Manuals and lectured on MSc Wild Animal Health Course at London Zoo for 21 years. Dr. Lewis is a keen triathlete, photographer and traveller.
