Nicolien van Klaveren is from the Netherlands and studied veterinary medicine at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Utrecht, where she graduated in April 2002. After an internship at the University in Utrecht, she worked for a year in private practice and then returned for a residency in Utrecht in 2004.

She became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2008. In 2008 she started to work at the Department of Orthopedics and Soft Tissue Surgery at the Medical Centre for Animals in Amsterdam. She is currently Head of the soft tissue surgery department there.

She successfully trained several residents and gave over 100 national and international lectures in orthopedics and soft tissue surgery.
