Resume:

Dr. Zandvliet graduated from Utrecht University in 2000 and started a residency in Internal Medicine at the same university. He passed the European Speciality board exams in 2007 and from 2005-2010 he worked in the Internal Medicine service and the Emergency and Ciritical Care Unit at Utrecht University and combined this with working in a private referral centre. In 2010 the chance arose to specialize in Medical Oncology and Radiotherapy. He completed a second residency program in Small Animal Oncology and is a diplomate in Medical Oncology since 2015. He followed additional training in radiotherapy at the radiotherapy services of Utrecht University Medical Centre (UMCU) and the veterinary faculty at University of Vienna (UVW) and has run the Misdorp Centre for Veterinary Radiotherapy since 2010. Since 2022 he is head of the Medical and Radiation Oncology service at Utrecht University and responsible for the cytology and flow-cytometry service provided by the Utrecht Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (UVDL). In 2014 he successfully defended his PhD project entitled “Drug resistance in canine lymphoma”. He regularly lectures at local, national and international conferences on small animal oncology, radiotherapy, internal medicine and cytology, trains ECVIM residents in both Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology, is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Veterinary Comparative Oncology, reviewer for various journals and member of the ECVIM Oncology exam committee. In veterinary oncology he has found the ideal combination of patient care, challenging technical aspects, biomedical research and a link with the one-health philosophy.
