Diagnostic Imaging
Radiology I
Radiology is the most available and economical diagnostic imaging, but it is not the easiest to interpret. With experience, complex pathologies and life saving diagnoses can be done. Mistakes can be catastrophic but with a systematic approach can be minimalized. The aim of the course is to provide a key to interpreting the most complex radiographic cases or, at least, to be able to gain enough information to be able to treat the patient in an emergency. Thorax, abdomen and skeletal structures will be included in the course which will be mostly based on real practical cases.
Basic Diagnostic Ultrasound
The aim of the course is to provide a systemic US approach for the abdominal organs that will not only allow us to find them easily but will be the first step towards understanding the complex anatomy of the major abdominal vessels. The basis for the analysis of the lesions to generate the most likely differential diagnosis will be also provided. At the end of the course, the participant will understand the basic physics of the US, the need to set properly the machine, the US anatomy and the anatomical landmarks to locate all the abdominal organs and vessels. At home practice will be needed to consolidate the knowledge and be ready for Advanced Diagnostic Ultrasound.
Advanced Diagnostic Ultrasound
This course is for Doctors who have acquired a discrete to good ultrasound technique but who find it challenging to diagnose a congenital or acquired shunt. It is also for Doctors who want to be able to have an excellent technical knowledge of how to use the ultrasound machine and the Doppler system. Good knowledge and experience in Basic ultrasound techniques is a must to enrol for this course. The more advanced keys for the analysis of the lesions to generate the most likely list of differential diagnoses would be also provided and discussed with the teachers. At the end of the course, the participants should be able to understand the complexity of shunts and challenging new anatomical regions. They should be able to properly set their ultrasound machines and they should be able to make a difference for their patients and colleagues in everyday practice.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Learn how to understand and review the MRI technology, including artefact and Safety hazards, and its diagnostic utility in diagnosis pathologies affecting the brain, spine and musculoskeletal system in dogs and cats. A review of the MRI technology will help you to build confidence in understanding the displayed MRI images and to optimise your image acquisition. You will be trained in lectures and laboratories to recognize the major diseases affecting the central nervous system, the spine and the musculoskeletal system.
Small Animal Computed Tomography
The purpose of this training program is to familiarize participants with the basics of computed tomography so that they will feel comfortable prescribing, acquiring and interpreting basic CT studies. Upon completion of the course, participants will have a basic understanding of CT technology, knowledge of common CT acquisition techniques, and proficiency in image viewing and manipulation using DICOM viewing software. In addition, participants will develop a systematic method for evaluating CT studies so that they will feel comfortable distinguishing normal from abnormal, determining the significance of common lesions, and developing a list of differential diagnoses. Material will be presented in lecture and discussion formats with a heavy emphasis on case-based learning and student-instructor interaction. Participants will be expected to review case material outside of classroom time to develop individual abilities.
