Neurology: Introduction to Neurosurgery

Course Overview

Participants must have completed Neurology I and II or Soft Tissue Surgery I, II and III (or equivalent training). Participants with comparable previous training or experience who have not followed the ESAVS pathway should consult ESAVS office before registration.

Learning outcomes:

The course participant is able to…

  • Identify the indications for hemi-/minihemilaminectomy +/- fenestration
    • Ventral slot
    • Dorsal laminectomy (LS)
    • CSF puncture
    • Muscle and nerve biopsies
  • List complications of the above mentioned procedures and recount how to avoid them
  • Describe the procedures for the above described surgical approaches
  • Operate the surgical approaches of the above mentioned surgical procedures
  • Critically reflect the best approach to the clinical condition of the patient – surgical vs. non-surgical and advise the best surgical procedure for the individual patient
  • Design a treatment plan for the individual patient beyond surgery

Language

All modules will be in English.
