Dr. Alan Taylor graduated with distinction in Veterinary Science from the University of Bristol, UK, in 2006. He also holds degrees in Biology from Paisley College of Technology and Natural Sciences with Chemistry from The Open University. Before pursuing veterinary medicine, he served for 17 years as a fast jet Navigator in the Royal Air Force.
Following a rotating internship in Equine Studies at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC), UK, Dr. Taylor joined the RVC as a Staff Clinician in Anaesthesia and Head of Large Animal Anaesthesia. During his seven years in this role, he gained extensive experience in both large and small animal anaesthesia, managing cases ranging from routine procedures to complex interventions in critically ill patients.
His clinical expertise spans a wide range of domestic and exotic species. His particular interests include anaesthesia for abdominal emergencies, especially equine colic, cardiothoracic procedures, and multimodal approaches to anaesthesia and pain management.
Dr. Taylor obtained the RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Anaesthesia in 2008 and became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia (ECVAA) in 2018. He has also completed postgraduate studies in musculoskeletal pain and veterinary education and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Passionate about veterinary education, Dr. Taylor has extensive teaching experience at the Royal Veterinary College and City University of Hong Kong's Veterinary Medical Centre (CityU VMC). He has also presented internationally, including at events organised by the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) and The Vet Show Group.
Dr. Taylor combines extensive clinical expertise with a strong commitment to veterinary education, advancing anaesthesia practices and improving patient care across a broad range of species.
