Dr. Paola Cazzini is a Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Clinical Pathology and Head of Clinical Pathology at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies (R(D)SVS), University of Edinburgh, UK.
After graduating in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Milan, Italy, in 2008, Dr. Cazzini completed a residency in Veterinary Clinical Pathology at the University of Georgia, USA, becoming a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) in 2013. She subsequently obtained a Master of Science in Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences from the University of Georgia in 2014.
Following a clinical pathology position at the University of Glasgow, Dr. Cazzini joined the University of Edinburgh in 2015 as a Lecturer and was appointed Senior Lecturer in 2021.
Dr. Cazzini has extensive experience in veterinary clinical pathology education, teaching undergraduate students and veterinary professionals through lectures, interactive small-group sessions, and practical laboratory training. Her teaching approach emphasises active learning, case-based discussions, and the practical application of clinical pathology in everyday veterinary practice. She also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Her research interests include lymphoma, inflammatory bowel disease, and veterinary education. She has contributed to several peer-reviewed scientific publications, supervised undergraduate and residency research projects, and secured grants for collaborative research. She is particularly interested in innovative teaching methods, including simulation-based learning, to enhance veterinary education.
In recognition of her scientific contributions, Dr. Cazzini received the 2020 Journal of Veterinary Diagnostic Investigation (JVDI) Best Manuscript Award.
