Dr. Meichner received her DVM from the Ludwig-Maximilian University Munich, Germany. After a rotating small-animal internship, she completed a residency in small animal medical oncology in Munich and became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine – Companion Animals in Medical Oncology in 2014. Next, she completed a clinical pathology residency at North Carolina State University in the USA, became a board-certified veterinary pathologist (ACVP) in 2016, and then joined the University of Georgia (UGA) Department of Pathology (Athens, Georgia, USA). Dr. Meichner is currently Associate Professor at UGA and Director of the Clinical Pathology and the Clinical Flow Cytometry Laboratory. She enjoys working with and teaching residents as well as graduate, undergraduate, and veterinary students. Her research interests are in immunology and canine cancer, especially the characterization of canine hematopoietic tumors and the investigation of alternative treatment strategies. Dr. Meichner is an active member of standardization groups with the goal to establish consensus recommendations for the usage of clinical flow cytometry and for the microscopic interpretation of bone marrow samples in veterinary medicine.
