Neurosurgery 1

21 - 25 July 2025 | Shanghai, China

General Overview

The Neuro I Course provides a thorough introduction to the most common spinal surgical procedures. The first day emphasizes foundational knowledge, including surgical principles and the critical skills for examining neurological patients. This helps participants avoid being misled by conflicting information from diagnostic imaging. The surgical component of the Neuro I course will begin with the lumbar spine, as it is the region most frequently requiring surgery and is generally considered easier than the cervical spine. The lumbar spine surgeries provide a solid foundation in spinal surgical techniques. However, for participants seeking more advanced challenges, the course will also introduce complex procedures, such as ventral slot procedures and foraminotomies in the lumbosacral area.

Ideally, candidates should have some experience in small animal surgery and be familiar with soft tissue handling. As this is the basic course, we will try to teach an overall view of tissue handling, knotting technique, and handling of the instruments to perform a successful neurosurgical procedure.
